Here’s what to pack for each of this year’s classes. All classes are held in the Terrace Room on the Lobby Floor. All materials lists will be posted by the end of the week, so check back before you pack. Read about each class on our Artist of the Day Classes page.

Sunday, November 8, 3:00–5:00 pm

Kaleidoscope Canes with Lynne Sole (Artist of the Half-Day)

You’ll need some of your favorite skinner blends for this Kaleidoscope caning technique.

Sunday, November 8 and Tuesday, November 10, 7:00–9:00 pm

Mosaic Bowls and Pendants with Lisa Haney (Artist of the Night)

  • Burnisher (a stainless steel “soap bar” works well; example)
  • Extruder with square disks (a circular disk with a square-shaped opening)
  • Glass tile, 4″ x 4″ (example). You’ll tape a pattern to the back and put clay on the front. Glass from a small picture frame works, or even a round one.
  • Liquid clay
  • Patty paper or wax paper
  • Round form, such as a light bulb (vanity bulbs are great), craft ornament, decorative ball or bath bomb mold
  • Coarse sandpaper
  • Scale that weighs grams to 2 decimal places (0.00). If time permits, Lisa will show how to use Anita Long’s PC Color Mixing App (pccolormixer.com), so bring the app and a scale.
  • Scissors
  • Slicer, if you have one
  • Small circle cutters
  • Small 6-petal flower cutters
  • Tape
  • Texture sheet

Monday, November 9, 10:00 am–12:00 pm and 3:00–5:00 pm

Elegant Grunge with Denise Fitzsimmons

Before class: Spend some time thinking about what elegant grunge means to you, and try to find an image that represents it. Denise used an image from Jonas Peterson’s photo series Varanasi; feel free to look it up and choose a picture from that series if you like. Bringing an image is up to you.

  • Clay in whatever colors you want, or colors that go with your inspiration picture
  • Black clay for the bases of pieces, if you prefer black bases
  • Texture sponge
  • Variety of texture tools, stamps, mats, etc.
  • Scoring tool (scratch brush, wire bristle tool)
  • Acrylic paint, Gilders Paste, Inca Gold, pigments, mica powders, etc.
  • Blending tools or knitting needle
  • Alcohol or baby wipes
  • Printer paper
  • Tiles
  • A few medium-bristle paint brushes, smaller in size but not too small
  • Translucent or clear liquid clay
  • Craft knife and blades
  • Cutters (optional; shapes are easy to cut freehand)
  • Pin back (if you want to make a pin)
  • Pasta machine
  • Mini canvases, box lids, tin lids, a small cradle board or a journal (if you don’t want to make jewelry), and glue of your choice
  • Beads, chain, cord, jewelry tools, wire, etc. (if you want to make jewelry)

Tuesday, November 10, 10:00 am–12:00 pm and 3:00–5:00 pm

Puff Boxes with Linda Hess

Some materials are up to you and are marked “optional.”

Tools

  • Pasta machine
  • Straight blade
  • Cutting grid (optional). This makes it easier to cut a 4″ x 4″ square; a glass tile with measurements on the underside works well. If you don’t have a grid, a 4″ x 4″ paper template works too.
  • Knitting needle or a pointed/rounded clay shaper tool (the Sculpey 5-in-1 clay tool works great)
  • Coffee stirrer or cocktail straw (Linda will bring coffee stirrers for everyone)
  • Craft knife (make sure the blade is sharp, for ease in cutting)
  • Tile for baking

Other materials

  • Polymer clay, 4–6 oz, in the colors and brand of your choice. You’ll need one color for the inside of your puff and a veneer of some sort for the outside. Bring your canes or veneers. Flexible clay works best!
  • Liquid clay
  • Old small paintbrush for applying liquid clay (used only to add details after the first bake, not to form the puff)
  • Texture (Linda will have plenty to share). A textured layer makes it easier to bring the seams together.

Optional (mostly for detailing your puff)

  • Fiberfill for the first bake (crumpled paper towel also works)
  • Wire
  • Wire cutters
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Beads and/or charms

Wednesday, November 11, 10:00 am–12:00 pm and 3:00–5:00 pm
